As an unmissable trophy on any traveller’s bucket list, the Taj Mahal has become a prominent symbol of India and attracts more than eight million visitors every year from far and wide. For those planning a luxury holiday to India and wish to see the Taj Mahal in-person, we recommend visiting as the sun rises or sets. During these times, you will be able to see the light perfectly hit the marble dome and truly experience the grandeur and beauty of the infamous jewel in India’s crown.

2. Go shopping for jewellery and textiles in Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar

On a long stretch of road surrounded by the rosy-coloured walls of the ‘Pink City’, you will find the shopper’s paradise of Johri Bazaar.

The word ‘Johri’ in Hindi can be translated as ‘jeweller’, and amidst the hustle and bustle of the ever-so colourful street, there are countless exquisite jewellery stores selling gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and more. While wandering through the by-lanes, you will find many craftsmen carefully crafting unique pieces that are bespoke to the region of Rajasthan. However, sitting in the middle of Udaipur lies Lake Pichola. Reflecting the Aravalli hills on its mirror-like surface, Lake Pichola is understandably one of the most beautiful attractions in Udaipur. To truly embrace this wondrous landmark, stay at the magical Taj Lake Palace, a world-class luxury hotel set on an island in the middle of the lake, or in one of the five-star hotels on the banks such as The Oberoi Udaivilas or The Leela Palace. With the cool and pleasant climate, you can explore Mall Road, visit the Shimla State Museum, see the Jakhu Temple and enjoy a ride on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Kalka-Shimla Railway, weaving through a multitude of tunnels and over hundreds of bridges to truly take in the region’s natural beauty.

Aside from its grandeur, the Temple offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region with locals and visitors alike participating in a variety of rituals and ceremonies. For those who wish to truly immerse themselves in India’s heritage and culture, a trip to the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai simply cannot be missed.

However, it is important to note that over the course of 2025, the Meenakshi Temple will be undergoing restoration work and therefore, the gopurams (towers) will be covered.

Bagh is home to the Town Hall, the 18th century Writers’ Building, the St. Andrew’s Church and the Eden Gardens, also known as the oldest cricket stadium in the country. Best Time to Visit New Zealand

The best time to travel to New Zealand is in the summer and autumn months down under, between November and April.

The months between November to February are full of long and sunny days, which are ideal for exploring the great outdoors. In March and April, the days are crisp and cool, and the leaves change colour, blanketing the landscapes with autumn foliage.

If you are looking to plan a luxury skiing holiday in New Zealand, the best time to travel is July and August. During these months, the snow dusts the peaks of the Southern Alps and the mountains transform into a winter wonderland.

EXPLORE NEW ZEALAND

The North Island

  • Bay of Islands, an array of idyllic islands and historic sites
  • Coromandel Peninsula, an unspoilt coastal playground
  • Hawke’s Bay, an east coast paradise of wine-tasting and delicious food

  • Otago Peninsula, home to the famous yellow-eyed penguins
  • Queenstown, a town renowned for its adventure sports

Best Things to See and Do on a New Zealand Holiday

Our experts, Louisa and Gina, have travelled extensively across both the North Island and South Island, and have handpicked their favourite things to see and do on a luxury New Zealand holiday.

Go whale watching in Kaikoura

Nowhere on the planet that can quite match the year-round show of whales at Kaikoura. Renowned as the whale watching capital of New Zealand, Kaikoura lies on the Pacific coast of the South Island. Here, you will see the giant sperm whales, who are year-round residents, and depending on the season, you may see migrating humpback whales, blue whales and more venturing close to the shore to feed. Kaikoura is also the perfect place to dip into the water and swim with the dusky dolphins.

Explore Christchurch, Canterbury & Kaikoura

Plan a helicopter tour over the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers

A heli-hike over the spectacular Fox and Franz Josef glaciers is an unforgettable adventure that can’t be missed when travelling to New Zealand. Hop on a chopper and witness the jaw-dropping scenery below before touching down to hike across the ice on a guided tour. The Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers are two of the fastest moving in the world and with the terrain constantly changing, no two trips are ever quite the same.

Explore the West Coast & Glaciers

Hike the Hollyford Track

New Zealand is home to some of the best walking trails in the world, but one of our favourites is the Hollyford Track in Fiordland National Park. As one of the only major low-altitude tracks in Fiordland National Park that can be walked all year round, the Hollyford Track is a guided trek, or rather ‘tramp’ as the Kiwis say, along a 56km trail through the largely untouched Hollyford Valley. Surrounded by spectacular landscapes of vast valleys, tranquil lakes and thundering waterfalls, the four-day trail begins at the end of the Lower Hollyford Road and ends by the sea at Martins Bay.

Explore Queenstown, Wanaka & Te Anau

Kayak in Abel Tasman National Park

Renowned for its golden sand beaches and calm turquoise waters, the Abel Tasman National Park is perhaps New Zealand’s smallest national park, but it is the home to some of the best kayaking in the country. Whether you prefer a guided kayaking tour or an independent adventure, you will have the chance to explore all the hidden coves, islands and beaches that cannot be reached by hiking. On your travels, you may spot New Zealand’s resident fur seal colony and little blue penguins from a distance.

Explore Nelson & The Abel Tasman

Sample the world-class wine of New Zealand in Marlborough

From the award-winning Pinot Noir to the infamous Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough is one of the best places to visit in New Zealand for wine lovers. As the country’s largest wine producing region, Marlborough is home to 168 well-known wineries and small boutique family producers. Head to the area and treat your palate by embarking on wine tours at the wineries and cellar doors of some of the world’s favourite wines. If you enjoy Sauvignon and Chardonnay, we recommend paying a visit to one of Marlborough’s star attractions, Cloudy Bay.

Explore Blenheim & Marlborough

From the neon skyline of Tokyo to the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro to the endless adventures of Cape Town, our team of experienced travel specialists, many of whom have travelled extensively all over the world, have crafted a list of their top 11 most luxurious cities in the world where you can truly indulge in the finer things in life. Read on to find out where you should go on your next tailor-made luxury city break in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Rio de Janeiro

Defined by its colourful streets, fun-loving locals and world-famous beaches, there is no seaside city quite like Rio de Janeiro.

If we had to describe Rio de Janeiro in a few words, we would say that it is one of the most vibrant and spirited cities in the world. Music and dance are the heartbeat of the city, and the streets come alive with the sounds of samba, funk and bossa nova, especially in the downtown Lapa area and during the widely popular Rio Carnival celebrations.

Beyond the city’s infamous ‘joie de vivre’, a concept perhaps created by the French but adopted by the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro, a luxury city break to Rio promises an array of dazzling sight-seeing opportunities. Climb to the summit of Mount Corcovado to stand beside the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer or hop on a cable-car ride at Sugarloaf Mountain, both of which promise sweeping views of the beautiful city below and the majestic Atlantic Ocean beyond. For some of the most interesting museums and galleries, you can also travel to the trendy neighbourhood of Santa Teresa.

No holiday to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without a trip to the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. From strolling along the boardwalk to sailing in the ocean’s warm waters, these golden shores are framed by some of the most spectacular natural scenery Brazil has to offer. With the locals surfing the waves or playing football on the beach, Rio’s beaches are ideal spots for soaking up the buzzing atmosphere that has placed Rio on our most luxurious cities in the world list.

Cape Town

With its stretch of sun-kissed beaches, string of gastronomic delights and wonderfully vibrant cosmopolitan culture, Cape Town has truly cemented itself as one of the most luxurious cities.

Each corner of the city promises a diverse array of experiences. In the north, you can embark on a boat ride to Robben Island, a place where Nelson Mandela spent a large part of his 27-year incarceration. Whereas in the south of the city, you are at the epicentre of adventure. Go paddle boarding around the waterfront, surf in the Indian Ocean waves at Muizenberg or make the trip to the Cape Peninsula to visit the protected African penguins of Boulders Beach and witness the scenic cliffs of Cape Point. No holiday to Cape Town would be complete without reaching the summit of Table Mountain, one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Tackle the mountain on foot or jump on a cable-car ride to reach the mountain’s peak and witness the bustling city below. If you head to the eastern slope of Table Mountain on your luxury holiday to Cape Town, you will witness one of South Africa’s most beautiful natural spaces, the infamous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Cape Town is only a short drive from the infamous valleys of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, also collectively known as the world-class Cape Winelands. For wine connoisseurs, a trip to the Winelands is an absolute must, as you can sample some of the finest wines South Africa has to offer, whilst taking in the broad valleys, towering mountains and architecture of the region.

Tokyo

With over 37 million inhabitants, Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world. At every turn, you will be met with its infectious energy and an extraordinary array of sights, sounds and smells that are unlike any other luxury city holiday on our top ten list.

From its towering skyscrapers to its ancient temples, Tokyo is a city built on contrasts. Those who travel to the neon city will feel as though they have been transported into the future, whilst still being immersed in the traditions of ancient Japan. Explore the city’s vibrantly modern scene with a visit to the fashion hub of Shibuya, the shopper’s paradise of Ginza and the lively entertainment districts of Roppongi and Shinjuku. Akihabara is also a must-see for those who wish to get a taste of Japan’s love for manga and high-tech gadgets, and if you are in between the districts of Shibuya and Shinjuku, head to the colourful streets of Harajuku, which are full of delicious street food and chic boutiques.

For those looking to embrace the traditional world of Japan, the old downtown area of Asakusa is the place to start. Asakusa is home to the city’s oldest Buddhist temple, Senso-ji, and its spectacular Kaminarimon Gate. As you wander through the town’s narrow alleyways, you will gain an insight into what Tokyo was like before the economic boom of the 1970s and 1980s. For those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city streets, visit one of Japan’s most beautiful gardens, Shinkuku Gyoen. Originally a residence of the Naito family in the Edo period, this public park becomes inundated with blooming pink and white flowers in the cherry blossom season.

Lima

For those looking to pair a high-end culinary adventure with a top luxury city break, look no further than Peru’s capital city of Lima.

Renowned as the gastronomic capital of Latin America, Lima is home to a string of award-winning restaurants that have earned global recognition. Drawing inspiration from the country’s Andean, European, Oriental and African heritage, traditional dishes such as the Peruvian ceviche and pisco cocktails have been transformed into a cutting-edge gastronomic experience. With some of the world’s top chefs such as Virgilio Martinez of Central and Gaston Acurio of Astrid y Gaston as well as incredible private culinary experiences like Penelope Alzamora, it is clear to us (and the world) that Lima’s food scene is nothing short of extraordinary.

However, beyond the infamous flavour combinations of Peru’s culinary world, Lima’s winding streets are home to an array of historical, architectural and cultural delights that absolutely must be seen. From the colonial architecture of the Plaza de Armas and the French-style buildings of Plaza San Martin to the city’s treasure trove of museums and bohemian neighbourhoods full of colourful streets, Lima is a luxury city holiday that harmoniously combines the old with the new. No trip to Lima would be complete without visiting the infamous Museo Larco, a museum which holds the largest and most important archaeological collection of Ancient Peru, and enjoying some of the best coffee in the city amidst the cobbled streets of Barranco.

Marrakech

Seamlessly blending the past with the present, Marrakech is at once a cultural treasure house and lively, bustling metropolis.

Known as the ‘Red City’ for the distinct reddish hue of its city walls, Marrakech bewitches all who enter through its ancient gates. Most come to lose themselves in the souks, an intricate web of twisted alleyways and hidden recesses that are alive with vibrant colours, aromatic scents and a symphony of sounds. Merchants will be waiting at every corner with brilliant displays of jewellery, carpets and frankincense that you will find hard to ignore, and the bargaining that follows is an essential ingredient in any souk experience!

When you finally emerge into the Jemaa el-Fnaa, the iconic square at the historic heart of the Medina, you will be met by jugglers, snake charmers and story tellers keen to share their unique skills with you. The square is ringed by open-air cafes, so you might prefer instead to watch the magical chaos of it all unfold before you with a refreshing glass or two of mint tea.

No visit to Marrakech is complete without taking a step back in time and exploring its imperial treasures. The imposing Koutoubia Mosque is not only the city’s tallest building, but also one of the finest examples of Almohad architecture, while the colourful mosaics of the Saadian Tombs and the grand courtyards and sunken gardens of El Badi Palace are the outstanding royal legacy of Marrakech’s glorious past.

An Insider’s Travel Guide to a Peru Holiday

Our experts have created the Ultimate travel guide on when to visit and what to do on your luxury holidays to Peru in 2025 and 2026.

From the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu to the winding waterways of the Amazon, a trip to the ‘deepest, darkest’ Peru promises a holiday full of wonder and adventure.

Whether you are travelling as a family, on a honeymoon or as a luxury getaway, Peru is truly a dream holiday destination for every type of explorer. With its hidden Inca treasures, world-class Peruvian cuisine and endless ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experiences, it should come as no surprise that Peru is a favourite of ours at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø.

Following the expert advice of our South America specialists, Jonny, Claire and Jacob, who have travelled extensively across Peru, here is a list of everything you need to know for an unforgettable holiday to Peru in 2025 and 2026.

Why travel to Peru?

Many who answer this question would mention the iconic site of Machu Picchu. Renowned as the Lost City of the Incas, celebrated as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu receives around 1.6 million visitors per year, and with its extraordinary beauty and rich history, there is no surprise as to why.

However, a holiday to Peru is much more than Machu Picchu. You can head to Lima and enjoy world-class cuisine in the gastronomic capital of South America whilst overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can explore the Peruvian Amazon on a luxury riverboat in search of howler monkeys and rare pink river dolphins. You can see first-hand the traditional communities of  Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, and the Colca Canyon, a canyon twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the USA. The list is endless.

EXPLORE PERU

When is the best time to visit Peru?

The best time to travel to Peru is between April and mid-November.

In Peru, there are two seasons: the wet season (December-March) and the dry season (April-November). The months of December to March are usually dominated by rainy days, living up to its namesake of ‘wet season’. However, these rain showers can sometimes be fleeting and once they have passed, you will experience beautiful weather for the rest of the day. Temperatures usually average 25°C to 35°C on the coast and 0°C to 15°C in the Andes. However, if you want to visit Machu Picchu, be sure not to travel in February as the Inca Trail closes for the month.

If you travel to Peru in the dry season, you will be met with clear and sunny days across the country, which is perfect for hiking and exploring everything Peru has to offer. The temperatures usually range from 10°C to 33°C, depending on where you are visiting.

Certain areas of Peru are high in altitude such as Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. When visiting these sites, it is worth bearing in mind that, regardless of the month you travel, the weather can change at any time.

What to see and do in Peru?

Taking into consideration what is popular with our travellers, our travel experts have created a list of their five favourite things to see and do on a Peru trip.

Hike along the ancient Inca trails

If you are looking to follow in the footsteps of the Incas, there are many other treks beyond the classic Inca Trail.

While the infamous Inca Trail is a rewarding trek, it is often crowded and in high demand. Due to the overwhelming tourism, we usually recommend our travellers explore one of the less visited Inca Empire tracks such as:

  • The Salkantay Trek: a challenging five-day hike through the snow-capped mountains to Machu Picchu. Click to see our Salkantay Trek travel itinerary.
  • The Lares Trail: one of the easier Inca trails, which takes three days to complete and goes through many traditional Andean villages. This trail is ideal for those who are looking for an authentic Peruvian experience.
  • The Choquequirao Trek: a fairly demanding three to four-day trail to the sister city of Machu Picchu, which is perfect for skilled hikers.
  • The Huchuy Qosqo Trek: one of the shortest Inca treks which takes only two days to complete and is in the heart of the Sacred Valley.

DISCOVER MACHU PICCHU, CUSCO & THE SACRED VALLEY

Be adventurous in the Colca Canyon

Travel through the towering volcanic landscapes of Arequipa and you will be met by one of the deepest canyons in the world, the Colca Canyon.

A trip to the Colca Canyon is always high on our lists when creating a Peru holiday itinerary for its beautiful landscapes and countless adventures. Aside from hiking up the snow-capped volcanoes, you can also bike, horse ride and even white-water raft through the canyon.

In the mornings, you will have a better chance of spotting the Andean Condors, one of the largest flying birds in the world and throughout your activities, you will undoubtedly see wild vicuna and alpacas grazing on the slopes.

Step aboard and see Peru by train

One of the best ways to explore Peru is by luxury train travel.

With the Belmond’s Andean Explorer, South America’s first luxury sleeper train, you can travel from Cusco to Colca Canyon over two days, visiting the floating reed islands of Uros and Taquille at Lake Titicaca en route.

If you wish to see Machu Picchu, the Belmond Hiram Bingham train is renowned as one of South America’s greatest train journeys. You will travel through the cloud forest and alongside the Vilcanota river towards the Lost City of the Incas, whilst being wined and dined from your own authentic Pullman-style carriage.

Discover the winding waterways of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest

As one of the most beautiful and unique places on earth, the Peruvian Amazon is an absolute must for those seeking adventure.

From watching the howler monkeys as they swing through the rainforest to catching a glimpse of the rare pink river dolphins swimming through Amazon Basin, the Peruvian Amazon has an array of extraordinary wildlife.

Our favourite way of seeing everything the Peruvian Amazon has to offer is with a luxury river boat cruise. You can either begin from Iquitos in the north or Puerto Maldonado in the south and drift along the Amazonian tributaries to see all the biodiversity hotspots.

For those wishing to explore the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, it is worth bearing in mind that humidity is high, but the wildlife is abundance all-year round.

Travel along the Peruvian coastline

The Peruvian coastline is home to a variety of incredible restaurants, museums and more.

In Lima, for instance, you can explore the country’s best museums including the renowned Larco Museum before wining and dining in some of the world’s best restaurants. If you travel south and stop in the coastal town of Paracas, you can embark on a boat tour and marvel at the wildlife on the rocky Ballestas Islands.

No visit along the coast would be complete without a walk along the ancient and mysterious geoglyphs known as the Nazca Lines. Or to the town of Pisco, home to the Peruvian liquor and a key ingredient in the national drink, Pisco Sour.

However, if you are making the journey to Latin America in 2025 and 2026, it might be worth visiting another neighbour destination on your luxury trip. The wondrous phenomenon of calving season is a must for those looking to travel to Tanzania in the shoulder season. Between January and March, over half a million of wildebeest and zebra calves are born and taking their first steps across the sweeping savannah of Ndutu. This incredible occasion also draws predators to the area and is particularly excellent for big cat sightings.

Best time to travel to Tanzania for the calving season: January to March
One of the best places to stay for the calving season in Ndutu Conservation Area: Serian’s Serengeti South

2. Watch the Great Migration of Wildebeest and Zebra in the Serengeti

Renowned as one of the world’s most epic and largest wildlife migrations, many believe that a trip to Tanzania is not complete without seeing the Great Migration in the Serengeti. Our advice if you wish to experience this momentous occasion is to plan your luxury safari during the months of January to March or even October, and to stay in a traditional mobile safari camp that moves its position to gain the most advantageous points.

Best time to travel to Tanzania for the Great Migration: January to March and July to October

3. Discover Africa’s best chimpanzee trekking in Mahale Mountains National Park

The Mahale Mountains National Park is not only one of the most beautiful parks in Tanzania, but it also sits on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the longest freshwater lake in the world. Amidst the fairy-tale forests and along the sandy banks of the lake lie around 1,000 curious and playful resident chimpanzees, who you can watch forage, groom and play with one another. Although it is worth noting that even though the chimpanzee trekking is the park’s claim to fame, there are a variety of other creatures that inhabit the park such as red-tailed, vervet and red colobus monkeys as well as sable, warthog and over 350 bird species.

Best time to travel to Tanzania for a chimpanzee safari: June to February
One of the best places to stay for the chimpanzees in Mahale Mountains National Park: Greystoke Mahale

4. Plan a remote safari holiday in southern Tanzania

The southern parks of Tanzania, Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park, promise a more exclusive safari experience. With over 50,000 square kilometres of vast wilderness, the Nyerere National Park is the largest protected game reserve in Africa, and home to thousands of buffalo, hippos, zebras and more. The Ruaha National Park, on the other hand, is considered a best kept secret amongst safari goers with its dramatic landscapes, the largest concentration of elephants in east Africa and 10% of the global lion population.

Best time to travel to southern Tanzania: June to October
One of the best places to stay in southern Tanzania: Sand Rivers (Nyerere National Park) and Ikuka Safari Camp (Ruaha National Park)

5. Visit the world’s largest volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater

Home to Tanzania’s most remarkable geological feature, the Ngorongoro Crater, and a natural sanctuary with some of the densest populations of mammals in Africa, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area should be on your bucket list. Predators such as lions, cheetahs and spotted hyenas roam the Crater floor, while in the open grasslands, you see large herds of buffalo, wildebeest and Tanzania’s healthiest population of black rhino. The wildlife in Ngorongoro are completely unfazed by the presence of safari vehicles, which is perfect for up-close encounters and photographs.

Best time to travel to Ngorongoro Conservation Area: June to October
One of the best places to stay for Ngorongoro Conservation Area: Entamanu

6. Watch huge elephant herds in Tarangire National Park

In the cool and swampy areas of Tarangire National Park lies one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. Between the dry months of June to October, you will see herds of up to 300 elephants congregating around one of the few remaining water sources, the Tarangire River. As one of the lesser-known game reserves in Tanzania, Tarangire National Park promises a less crowded safari experience in the peak months.

One of the best places to stay for Tarangire National Park: Chem Chem Safari

7. Explore Tanzania’s most pristine reserve, Katavi National Park

In the far west of Tanzania lies the lesser known national park of Katavi. As an untouched wilderness paradise, Katavi is home to an array of habitats from open grasslands to dense waterways, all of which are surrounded by a towering mountain landscape. However, one of the best things about making the journey to Katavi National Park is that it is far off the main tourist circuit and usually, there will be more wildlife than other people on your game drive.

Best time to travel to Tanzania for Katavi National Park: June to mid-November
One of the best places to stay for Katavi National Park: Chada Camp

8. Combine a Tanzania safari with a beach holiday in Zanzibar

After your safari adventure in Tanzania, visit the idyllic white-sand beaches of Zanzibar for some post safari R&R. Imagine snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, lazing on velvety beaches and dining on delicious seafood dishes. In our opinion, there is no better way to end a luxury holiday to Tanzania or romantic honeymoon getaway.

Best time to plan a Tanzania and Zanzibar holiday: January to March

9. See the pink flamingos and tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara National Park

Although Lake Manyara National Park does not have as much wildlife as the other parks on our list, it does have some of the most unique experiences. The centrepiece of the park, the Lake Manyara, is a soda ash lake that covers almost two thirds of the park’s total area, and during June to October, attracts around two million pink flamingos to its shores. Aside from the abundance of elegant pink flamingos, the lions of the area are renowned for their tree-climbing habits, but it is worth noting that they are not easily seen.

January in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in January: As we move into the peak of the summer season in the southern hemisphere, Argentina in January usually sees an average temperature of 18°C to 30°C.

With its long sunny days, January is one of the best months to plan a trip to the Patagonia region. Whether you are interested in exploring the Perito Moreno glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, horse riding across Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park or witnessing the towering, granite horns of Mount Fitz Roy on the many hiking trails near El Chaltén, a Patagonia holiday promises extreme landscapes, roaring wilderness and endless adventure.

February in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in February: The temperatures in the Patagonia region range from 15°C to 25°C, with sunny days that are perfect for exploring Argentina and Chile’s breathtaking landscapes.

For those seeking incredible scenery and epic outdoor adventures, a Patagonia holiday in February will combine the best sights of the southern regions of Argentina and Chile against the backdrop of mostly warm and sunny days. Although the phrase ‘four seasons in a day’ was made for Patagonia!

One place we recommend visiting in February would be El Chaltén. Hike to Mirador de los Cóndores and the Mirador de las Ãguilas, and you can watch the sunrise and the town sprawled out before you at the edge of Rio de las Vueltas. If you look towards the south, you will witness the towering, granite horns of Cerro Fitz Roy bathing in the sunlight, appearing like pink, glowing flames in the sky.

March in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in March: Temperatures in central Argentina usually range between 15°C to 25°C in the month of March, with humidity levels decreasing.

If you are a wine connoisseur, March is a great time to plan your holiday to Argentina. In the picturesque wine valleys around Mendoza and flanked by the impressive Andes mountains, you can sample the region’s best wines on guided tours and tastings and partake in some of the harvest festivals. When you are not sipping on Argentina’s finest wines, you can go horse riding, trekking, mountain biking, and river rafting as well as hike the nearby summit of Mount Aconcagua, South America’s tallest peak.

April in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in April: In the northern regions of Argentina, the temperatures usually range between 5°C to 25°C in April.

With cooler temperatures and decreasing humidity levels, April is the perfect time to visit the 80-metre-high Iguassu Falls. As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the dramatic waterfalls span the border between Argentina and Brazil and are best explored on foot or by taking to the water in a zodiac boat. If you wish to see the whole dramatic scene, we recommend soaring above the falls in a chartered helicopter as this is the only way to get a true sense of the incredible scale and beauty of Iguassu.

June in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in June: As the winter season begins in Argentina, the northern regions usually expect temperatures between 17°C and 20°C during the daytime and very low humidity.

June is a great time to visit the north western regions of Argentina. Often overlooked in favour of its neighbours the Atacama of Chile and the Salt Flats of Bolivia, this region of Argentina offers a unique experience, entirely different to its famous friends. The Puna is a vast expanse of endless pumice stone labyrinths, ghost towns hanging to brilliant multi-coloured cliff faces and beautiful stretches of desert that beckon you off-the-beaten-path. Explore the beautiful city of Salta, visit the colonial village of Purmamarca, sample the fine wines of Cafayate and head to Tucuman, a fantastic base for mountain climbing, horse riding and paragliding activities.

July in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in July: The average temperature in July for the northern regions of Argentina is usually around 17°C.

From Iguassu Falls to the Iberá Wetlands, July is a great month to visit the northern regions of Argentina as you will have the chance to witness some of Argentina’s extraordinary wildlife.

The 80-metre-high waterfalls of Iguassu Falls are nestled within a stunning national park that is home to tapirs, howler monkeys, and a rich variety of birds, but it is also half a day’s drive from the Iberá wetlands, perhaps Argentina’s best-kept wildlife secret. Heading here in July means avoiding the sweltering temperatures of the high-summer and the intense humidity, but gives you ample opportunity to walk the trails and canoe the narrow canals in search of a staggering number of species such as capybaras, black caiman and if you are lucky, even a giant anteater.

August in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in August: August is the last month of Argentina’s winter season and in the northern regions, days are usually sunny and dry.

Whether you are interested in exploring the striking desert landscapes, untouched ancient hill towns and impressive geological formations of the north west Argentina or seeing the iconic sights of Iguassu Falls and the Iberá Wetlands, August is a great time for planning an Argentina holiday across the northern regions.

October in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in October: With the spring season in full swing, those making a trip to Argentina in October will be met with warmer temperatures and low humidity.

For those who love wildlife, October is a great time to visit the Península Valdés. The global conservation site is home to an abundance of marine life, and in October, you will have the opportunity to spot the Southern Right Wales, elephant seals and Magellan penguins journey to the area.

November in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in November: Argentina starts to experience warmer temperatures in November, ranging from 20°C to 30°C in the northern regions and 10°C to 20°C in the southern regions.

As we move into the late spring months, Argentina is in full bloom in November. Surrounded by lush green landscapes and blossoming flowers, plan an incredible hike in El Chaltén, spot the thousands of species hiding in the Iberá Wetlands and learn the art of the tango in Buenos Aires.

December in Argentina

Weather in Argentina in December: The summer season begins in Argentina at the beginning of December, where the southern regions will expect sunny days with temperatures between 15°C to 25°C.

From a self-drive along the remote Carretera Austral in Chile to the sensational natural scenery and exciting outdoor activities of Argentina’s Lake District, December is a great month to plan a Patagonia holiday. Shoulder Season: When and Where to Travel in 2025 and 2026

Our best and most affordable holiday destinations for your luxury holidays in 2025 and 2026.

Finding the perfect time to travel for your luxury holidays isn’t always straightforward, but here is one thing we as experienced travel specialists know for certain: the ‘shoulder season’ is often where you can experience some of the most unique and memorable holidays for a more affordable price.

During the quieter months between peak travel seasons, you will usually find that those holiday destinations on your bucket list have fewer crowds, lower rates and promise some unforgettable adventures. From a Costa Rica holiday during the ‘little summer’ to a Tanzania safari in calving season, our team of experts have created a list of the best places to go on holiday for those wishing to travel in the off-peak season.

What is the shoulder season?

The shoulder season is the period that falls between a destination’s peak season and its off-season. Travelling in the shoulder season usually promises a more affordable luxury holiday, fewer crowds and a variety of unique experiences that you do not come across in the peak season.

When is the shoulder season?

The shoulder season varies by destination and its peak seasons. However, for many destinations, spring and autumn are usually the shoulder season months.

Where to go on holiday in the shoulder season?

Whether you are looking for an exciting African safari or a relaxing Caribbean beach holiday, our team of travel specialists have handpicked their top holiday destinations to visit in the shoulder season.

Northern Tanzania

Shoulder season: January to March

Often overshadowed by the Great Migration in the Serengeti, the calving season in northern Tanzania is an equally extraordinary phenomenon to behold. Between January and March, over half a million of wildebeest and zebra calves are born in just a two to three-week window in the northern Ngorongoro and southern Serengeti. This remarkable occasion also attracts many predators to the area and is particularly excellent for big cat sightings.

Before jetting back to your everyday life straight after your Tanzania safari, we recommend combining your luxury holiday or honeymoon to Tanzania with an all-inclusive holiday to the paradisal island of Zanzibar. In our opinion, there is no better way to end a safari adventure in Tanzania than bathing in the sun on Zanzibar’s velvety white-sand beaches during the months of January to March.

EXPLORE TANZANIA

Antarctica

Shoulder season: March and November

Antarctica is certainly a bucket list destination and for good reason. However, if you would like to avoid the higher cruise prices and busier months of December to February, then our experts recommend planning your Antarctica cruise in the off-peak travel season of March and November. March is ideal for those seeking a more peaceful experience of the White Continent, with incredible whale sightings and spectacular sunrises and sunsets across the monumental glaciers. In November, the season is just beginning and you will witness the pristine landscapes and nesting penguins in their full glory.

If you’re interested in finding out more about an Antarctic cruise in 2025 and 2026, read our guide on what to expect on your Antarctica holidays.

EXPLORE ANTARCTICA

Oman

Shoulder season: April and May

Only seven hours from the UK, a holiday to Oman offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. One moment, you could be exploring the dramatic canyons of Jebel Akhdar and another, you could be unwinding on a beautiful white-sand beach in April.

One of our Oman specialists, Louisa, advises travelling from late April into May as this is the time where prices drop significantly, the peak season crowds are nowhere to be seen and the weather remains beautifully warm.

EXPLORE OMAN

Botswana

Shoulder season: April and May

Botswana is renowned as one of the best safaris in Africa, but it can usually be one of the more pricier safari destinations. However, if you travel in the off-peak months of April and May, you will be met with not only excellent game viewing, but also fewer crowds and a more affordable luxury Botswana holiday.

For a fantastic and more exclusive safari experience, explore the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta and a model of low-volume tourism in the months of April and May. Here you will witness an extraordinary array of wildlife without the usual crowds of the peak season, and there are plenty of experiences on offer such as traditional game drives, walking safaris, mokoro and motorboat trips, and fishing excursions.

Before embarking on your safari adventure, our experts have crafted a list of the 11 things you must pack for your safari and what not to pack.

EXPLORE BOTSWANA

The Caribbean

Shoulder season: June, late August and September

The Caribbean has been renowned as one of the best beach holiday destinations for decades and truly ticks every box for all those who travel to these magical islands. During the months of June, late August and September, you will experience a picture-perfect getaway of beautiful beaches, incredible diving and endless sunshine.

A favourite of °ä²¹³Ù³ó±ð°ù¾±²Ô±ð’s, one of our Caribbean travel specialists, is the Sugar Beach, a Viceroy ResortÌý¾±²Ô St Lucia. Nestled between the island’s iconic Pitons and with a Marine National Park just offshore, the Viceroy Sugar Beach is a haven for snorkelling enthusiasts and anyone looking for a fantastic beach holiday.

EXPLORE THE CARIBBEAN

Costa Rica

Shoulder season: July and August

If you are looking to travel in the summer holidays, but are seeking lower rates and smaller crowds, Costa Rica is one of the best places to visit for a luxury holiday. From mid-July to August, Costa Rica enjoys ‘Veranillo’, or ‘little summer’, which is a short dry spell that brings clearer skies and milder weather across the country. With these weather conditions, you will have the opportunity to experience everything Costa Rica has to offer, such as exploring the spectacular scenery, spotting the incredible wildlife and even lazing on some of the most beautiful beaches in Central America.

EXPLORE COSTA RICA

Rajasthan

Shoulder season: September

For those who are dreaming of planning a holiday to India in 2025, September is a wonderful time to visit the northern state of Rajasthan. During this month, it is not only more cost effective, but the region is cooler, greener and far quieter than the busier peak season of October onwards.

One of our Asia travel experts, Ayesha, recommends spending at least three days in the rose-hued capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Known as the home of the most beautiful attractions including the Moon Palace, the Royal Observatory and the Amber Fort, Jaipur is also a paradise for shoppers and the perfect immersion into the colour, creativity and chaos of India.

EXPLORE INDIA

Western Canada

Shoulder season: October

October is a wonderful time to experience the Canadian Rockies aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. As you travel through scenic valleys, you will be surrounded by breathtaking autumn colours and an abundance of wildlife. One of our favourite highlights of the journey is the panoramic views of Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. The GoldLeaf Service is the ultimate experience, with bi-level glass dome coaches offering expansive views, gourmet meals prepared by executive chefs and an exclusive outdoor viewing platform to bring you even closer to the spectacular landscapes.
