RIO DE JANEIRO
Arrive into Rio de Janeiro, one of the most iconic cities in all of South America and the starting point for your travels through Brazil.
Known as ‘Cidade Maravilhosa’ (Marvellous City), Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil but hands-down the most vibrant. Famous for Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Christ the Redeemer Statue and the picturesque Sugar Loaf Mountain, its landmarks and vivacious locals make it one of the most electric cities in all of the world.
Your hotel overlooks the iconic Ipanema beach and you’ll find yourself superbly positioned for exploring the city.
Stay: Three nights at JANEIRO Hotel – bed & breakfast
IGUASSU FALLS
Fly to Iguassu Falls, the planet’s largest and most awe-inspiring collection of waterfalls.
A UNESCO World Heritage site featuring over 200 streams that suddenly emerge from the jungle to crash over vast chasms, this is one of Brazil’s greatest natural spectacles. Your time here is spent exploring the national parks, discovering the tropical wildlife that calls this area home and of course marvelling at the waterfalls. There are trails, boat trips and even helicopter rides to show you this majestic area.
You’ll be staying at the elegant Belmond Das Cataratas which has a spectacular location, inside the Brazilian National Park at Iguassu and has unparalled access to the waterfalls.
Stay: Three nights at the Belmond Hotel Das Cataratas – bed & breakfast
AMAZON
Now for something entirely different. Today you will fly to Manaus, the gateway to Brazil’s vast Amazon Rainforest.
Your lodge is on the edge of the mighty Rio Negro, with prime access to the Anavilhanas National Park. The lush jungle provides sanctuary to a myriad of different creatures, including monkeys, giant otters, jaguars and an abundance of exotic birds.
Over the following days you can immerse yourself in the surrounding wilderness, choosing from a variety of guided excursions that range from piranha fishing and night walks to canoeing along the jungle’s meandering tributaries. Visits to nearby indigenous communities offer you the opportunity to learn more about the local culture and way of life.
Stay: Four nights at Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge – full-board
SALVADOR
Leaving the rich jungle behind, your Brazilian adventure now brings you to Salvador where you’ll find a lively Afro-Brazilian culture, exquisitely preserved colonial architecture and a gorgeous tropical coastline.
Fly to Salvador, where you’ll be staying in the city’s UNESCO-sponsored historical heart with its quaint cobblestone alleyways, bright buildings and large squares, just steps from the famous Church of San Francisco.
Stroll through the narrow yet vibrant colonial streets of the Pelourinho. Lookout from the Lacerda Elevator that offers staggering views across the city and ocean. There are so many ways you will experience the wonderful local rhythms of Afro-Brazilian Salvador written over four centuries.
